About Me

nancy3nov2003smaller.jpg

Can you hear that sound?  It’s the trees calling.  That primeval urge to go home to the woods, to smell the air, and the innate need for Quiet are things that motivate me. Though I currently live in southeast Michigan, it is this need that causes me to hitch up the horse trailer and haul my family of animals six hours north to Drummond Island each year.

Someone once described me as a “woodsy ragamuffin”.  This is pretty accurate, except for the seemingly incongruous fact that, like many thespians, I enjoy dressing up.  There are various reasons people do stage plays:  A love of the arts; a desire to be someone else at least temporarily; an urge to behave erratically in a public forum.  While all these apply to me, my main reason is that I am, quite simply, a ham.  I love karaoke too.  There’s nothing like bopping around on stage in leather pants, swinging a microphone and forcing a crowd of strangers to listen to my slightly off-key version of, “Tracks of My Tears”.

I'm sort of an amature behaviorist, having loved to learn different aspects of animal training.  My dog Scorch does many tricks, and Clifford does too.  I've raised many puppies over the years, and some of them have gone on to be police dogs, therapy dogs, leader dogs, and search and rescue dogs, as well as treasured family members.  I guess combining this with my love to write, it was only a matter of time before I came out with a puppy training book.

Lately, though, the thing taking up most of my attention is the CLIFFORD MOVIE -- I've written a screenplay adaptation of the book and now face the daunting task of trying to market it.  Meanwhile, I am promoting the new sequel, RETURN TO MANITOU.

Clifford and Me

What an experience it's been living with this fella!  He may be quirky but he's loyal, now having outlasted a husband and a coupla boyfriends!  He provided me with so much material that I started sending stories about him to the Morganlist on the Internet.  Pretty soon people started asking, "When's the book coming out?"  Having this horse, and writing that book, are two of the best experiences I've ever had.  And there's more to come!

Kerry Airatude, aka Trudy, the wonderful Morgan mare.  She's half sister to Clifford and the Good Girl in the group.  Trudy is our show horse, having won classes in harness and in hand.  She's also the unsung heroine of the book, "Return to Manitou".  Click on her picture to view her page!

Miss Clairol (aka Foxbrush Zephyr's Miss Clairol) is a ruddy shorthaired Somali (genetically an Abyssinian).  Claire was born June 8, 1991.  She had a blocked tear duct at an early age and I had to bottle raise her.  She still snuffles and snorts but she never stops purring.  She loves dogs and roast chicken.

Pepper (aka CH Lynn-Lee's Christmas Pepper) is a red Somali female born December 20, 1992.  She is a retired show kitty and contributed several litters of beautiful Somali babies to the world.  Pepper is pictured in her more svelte days.  She's now pretty porky and fluffy.  She is choosy about who she gives her affections to, but is always happy!

Kenya (aka CH Foxbrush Kenya Strut) is a ruddy Somali male born April 11, 1995.  He's also a retired show champion.  Kenya is aptly named, because he has the most serious case of happy feet I've ever seen.  He loves sitting on people's heads and licking their hair.  He also learned to do tricks with a clicker.

Family

Scorch, the infamous WonderMutt, who knows a myriad of tricks and never lets me out of his sight.  In March 2005, Scorch was diagnosed with lymphoma.  He's now receiving chemotherapy treatments to fight this disease and he's doing very well.  He's 9 years old.  Click on his picture to see his page!
